Typical Restoration Techniques for Crazy Quilts
Basic Replacement along Seamline
Embroidery will be restitched on Green piece.
Basic Silk Crepeline Overlay.
Focus: Purple triangle.
Fragile fabric, brittle, with early signs of shattering.
Custom-dyed silk crepeline placed over piece for color match.
Custom-dyed silk crepeline in place.
Original fabric and embroidery are intact. Crepeline contains and protects original fabric and stitching.
(Acid-free tissue surrounds work area to protect adjoining areas.)
Typical Remove & Replace: Shattered Silk
Ivory colored silk is shattered and hanging in shreds.
Deterioration extends into embroidery.
Embroidery has been removed and ivory colored silk has been removed and replaced.
Re-embroidery replicates original embroidery stitches.
Restoration of this piece is complete.
